The New Jersey attorney general's office Wednesday announced violations against 28 municipalities whose marriage license forms don’t let nonbinary people apply unless they misgender themselves as either male or female -- a violation of New Jersey’s anti-discrimination law.

Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipmeanwhile the Attorney General's office is also going after more than two dozen towns in the state that allegedly discriminated against lgbtq people who wanted to get married the office today announced violations against 28 municipalities whose marriage license forms don't let non-binary people apply unless they misgender themselves either as male or female it's a violation of New Jersey's anti-discrimination law the state says the Department of Health created a third gender option for non-binary residents on applications that have been made available since 2019. municipalities in violation range from Vineland and Delran in South Jersey to Morristown and Sussex in North Jersey the towns in violation could face fines up to ten thousand dollars according to the Attorney General's office those municipalities will have the option to take a settlement offer and enter an agreement to update their websites with gender inclusive applications the town's employees will also have to undergo anti-discrimination training [Music]
