well the state is going after more big name polluters announcing a lawsuit this week against Dow Chemical Company and others for widespread contamination of a potentially cancer-causing chemical in drinking water attorney general Matt platkin's office is accusing the companies of manufacturing selling and promoting products containing 1,4 dioxane for decades in New Jersey that's despite they say knowing the chemical was harmful and would pollute Drinking Water Supplies one for dioxane is considered a likely human carcinogen and was used primarily from the 1950s through the 1990s as an industrial metal cleaner according to the complaint there are more than 490 sites throughout the state that have detected the toxic chemical in groundwater samples including at the Ringwood mines where there are concerns it could contaminate the Wanaque river which provides drinking water for millions of people across North Jersey [Music]
