She loves doing little pieces and sewing them together.
The quilt bee, actually, came together in 1995.
So we're celebrating our 30th year of a group of volunteers that have made quilts for the Aurora Center for Active Adults on a weekly basis.
Over the years, the sale of the quilts goes into a special fund to do enhancement for the programs for the seniors.
Most of the people are pretty passionate sewers, quilters, and you can only have so many quilts in your own home before you start saying, what am I going to do with these?
So we have a quilt here.
So heres the top.
Inside is batting, and in the back is the backing.
Now you can see its been quilted now we have to put the binding on it.
All of our supplies are donated by people, who are cleaning out their own sewing stashes.
We take 100% cotton, and we put things together that you wouldn't always think is going to work, but they do.
We have a lot of ladies that have become very good friends with each other, that never knew each other before they joined the Quilt Bee I got one done!
Its a miracle!
and it's just a group of ladies having a good time doing something that they're passionate about.
It's not a craft.
It is a lifelong learning, brain-booster, type of activity because there's a lot of math involved, there's a lot of, right and left brained things.
You know, you're putting colors together, you're putting designs together.
So you have to think it keeps your mind young.
It really does.
And outside of the community, you know, we're the best hidden secret in Aurora.
