"Bullfrogs for beers" events gather data, and remove invasive species from wetlands in Colorado.
Denita Weeks studies diseases that affect amphibians in western Colorado, and she wants science to feel accessible to everyone. To help with both of those goals, she holds “bullfrogs for beers” collection events every summer, where volunteers catch invasive bullfrogs and turn them in for a coupon for a local brewery.

I research, primarily, a disease a fungal disease that affects amphibians.
And I started doing surveys here And I realized we have a lot of bullfrogs here which are not native.
they're also eating our native animals.
our snakes our rodents, and they also, unfortunately can be reservoirs for two different diseases.
Bullfrogs For Beers, I've been doing this for I think this is the fifth year and we've had over 160 volunteers at this point, removed, probably close to 300 bullfrogs from the wetlands.
I focus primarily on Snooks Bottom Open Space, where we are now.
Volunteers are an integral part of collecting all of this data.
They go and catch bullfrogs any way they choose.
Definitely a different way to spend your evening, I rarely get the opportunity to do something like this and, you know, have immediate impact.
If I can catch one.
Once they turn in their bullfrogs, they have a choice for a voucher for Trail Life or Base Camp.
So they get vouchers as a reward for collecting bullfrogs.
Even if they don't catch any, they get something.
People often think of science as being inaccessible or something that they can't do.
And it actually is extremely helpful for a lot of people to come out on the same mission and help collect this data.
