Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipattorney general Matt plotkin's office is calling on state residents to oppose and confront white supremacy a report released by the office this week analyzes the rise in white supremacist Recruitment and violence it comes after the New Jersey office of Homeland Security and preparedness rated the threat posed from white supremacist extremists as high for the third year in a row the report used information gathered from hundreds of community members during virtual public listening sessions it also details ways white supremacists have worked to blend into mainstream society and normalize their ideologies by gaining positions in government organizations like law enforcement and even school boards it also dives into the mental health harms that types of bias and discrimination cause for residents experts say it's a call to action for everyone there's a heightened sense of awareness that comes along so it's more of a survival mode that a lot of us are in and it takes a lot of us to get out of that survival Instinct where our mind is completely just on go it's not calm it's Restless it's constantly working and constantly seeing threats every single where in which you are so that's something that is heavy with individuals who experience you know this separation and segregation um due to white supremacy [Music]
